I had used most of my spare time working as a street photographer from 1988 to1990. I was focusing on the homeless people as they were living around my studio located near the West Side Highway in New York City.
The original images were shot by a Minox camera, using 35mm Kodachrome. A small camera would shorten the distance between me and the homeless people, and Kodachrome was the finest, 35mm color film for that time.
I always wanted to achive the effect of black and white photograph iwith minimum amount of color. The procedure of processing was extremely complicated. In a color dark room, I made the slide into both 8X10" black & white negative, and also color internegative. So, I could expose the image separately in order to substract the amound of color (saturation). Then, using masks and pin registers equipment, which enable me to achive the collage results in the darkroom with 8X10 color system.
