| Note from artist:
I started experimenting still-life work with bright color effect since 1985. It was inspired by the new waves in fine art activities during the '80s in Soho (New York).
On the other hand, I thought that the color photography has been invented for a long time, somehow most major museums and galleries were still emphasis in black and white works, which stimulated me to create a series of color work to express my opposition.
First, I had chosen fruits as my subjects in 1986. Then, I made a flower series in 1987-88. After that, I did a few nude series in 1989-91, which includes "Figure Composition", "Hibernation" and Nightmares".
In 1991, after I had seen the Matiss exhibition in New York, I was inspired by his work a lot. I realized that the great artwork could be also created under a total spontaneously and under a big deal of fun from playing.
Therefore, I made another body of color series, using "flower, bird, fish and bug" as my subject, experienced a fun and pleasent period of stage.
Till late 1992, after I did a total of 16 pieces, 20X24 inches pictures, I realized that the Apple computer was ready for photographer to manipulate images; I knew that the time I've been waiting was coming. I spend all of my money, brought my first Quadra computer and start the "Manimal" series.
